How do I start water service?
You must come into our office to fill out an application for service. Our office is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday - Friday. If you are unable to come into our office during working hours, you can request an application packet from our office, fill out the required forms and return via fax or US Mail after all forms have been notarized. After we receive all completed forms, there is a required security deposit and account establishment fee that is payable up front, before water service is placed in your name. We accept cash, check, Visa or MasterCard.
How long from the time I complete the new account paperwork will I have water service turned on?
If water service has been disconnected at the property we need to have someone present when we turn the water on at our meter. This is to ensure there are no leaks inside the residence. As long as all forms and monies are in our office by 4pm on a regular business day and someone can be present at the property, we can begin water service the same day.
Is rubbish removal included with my water and sewer service?
No, Kachina Utilities only provides water and sewer service. You will have to establish trash removal with one of the private contractors who service the area. These contractors are:
Northern Arizona Waste (928) 607-4766
Norton Environmental (928) 556-9900
Waste Management (928) 779-6050
Who do I call regarding road maintenance, drainage issues and snow plowing?
The Coconino County Public Works Department is responsible for all road issues. Their number is (928) 779-6630.
My usage has gone up significantly. Is this normal?
Depending on if you’ve been landscaping or have had extra people staying at your house, this could be very normal. Water flows very, very quickly. At 60 psi water pressure, a hole the diameter of a pencil or pen will release approximately 395,000 gallons in a one month period. We provide water service ranging from 30 psi to 120 psi depending on your location in Kachina Village. We are required by law to supply a minimum of 20 psi.
If you suspect you have a leak, please feel free to call our office for a leak check. This is a service we perform only during working hours.
Why is my sewer charge much higher than my water charge?
Many people don’t realize the steps involved in treating wastewater. Most times once it is flushed, it is forgotten. Sewage treatment is a multi-faceted operation, and thus it costs more to create a disposable product out of sewage than it costs to draw water up from the aquifer and deliver it to your faucets.
Why do I have to pay a monthly charge even when I have not used any water?
Kachina Utilities needs to provide water and wastewater service year round to all residences in Kachina Village. We have many expenses that need to be paid in order to provide this year round, uninterrupted service. The monthly base rate that is charged to each property in the Village covers our expenses. We have a high percentage of seasonal residents here, and if we did not collect this monthly base rate or any funds from these residents over a large amount of time, we would have to discontinue our services due to lack of funding. All properties in the Village share the amenity that is Kachina Utilities, and should share the burden of cost as well.
How many gallons of water are included in the base rate?
None. All water which flows through our meter is billed in addition to the base rates.
What is the green pole that extends from the top of my water meter box?
We recently completed a multi-year project to replace all water meters in Kachina Village with new, touch-read meters. The pole that extends from your meter box has a touch pad fixed to the end. Instead of lifting over 1,300 meter box lids a month and visually reading each water meter, we touch this pad (which is connected to the display on your water meter) with a wand and your meter read is downloaded into a handheld device. This has resulted in a significant savings in labor hours, as well as virtually eliminated the possibility of reading errors.
If you would like this green pole removed, you can purchase a radio attachment to be installed inside the meter box. Please call the utility for more information.
Kachina Village Wetlands & where are they located?
The Kachina Village Wetlands are a series of ponds located north of the intersection of Lohali Trail and Tovar Trail. Kachina Utilities does not discharge treated wastewater (reclaimed water). Instead, we store our reclaimed water in these storage ponds and allow natural evaporation to reintroduce this water into our environment. Our Wetlands evaporation ponds are a popular place for many different birds. We encourage visitors, but wish to remind pet owners that all dogs must remain on a leash while visiting our Wetlands.
